Description

Messier 17 or NGC 6618 is an emission nebula located 5,000 to 6,000 light-years away. Call the HII region of astronomers, ie, an interstellar cloud of ionized hydrogen gas which, in this case, an open cluster composed of 35 young, massive stars is that it provides radiation to ionize the nebula. It has 15 light-years in diameter and estimated mass of 800 solar masses.
