Description

NGC6440 although relatively near to the Sun at 20 000 light years, this globular cluster shines through about 4 magnitudes of interstellar absorption, so that it appears small and obscure in the Sagittarius star clouds.  It sits 2.3° south-west of M 23 and 4.1° north-west of M 20 (the Trifid Nebula). Discovered in 1784 by William Herschel.

Observation Notes : is a rich globular cluster, pretty bright, pretty small and much brighter in the middle. It had ragged edges with 10 stars resolved.
