Description

The Pinwheel Galaxy (Messier 101, M101 or NGC 5457) is a face-on spiral galaxy distanced 21 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. It is a large galaxy with a diameter of 170,000 light-years. Its apparent dimension is 28.8' × 26.9', very large, nearly the size of the full moon.

M101 has five prominent companion galaxies: NGC 5204, NGC 5474, NGC 5477, NGC 5585, and Holmberg IV. One is clearly seen at the bottom centre of the image (NGC5474).

16, 17 and 19 April 2015 LRGB image (240:100:97.5:97.5 min. for each filter), total exposure 535 min. (8.92 hours) under some light polluted area and hazy sky. SBIG STT-8300 CCD Camera, Takahashi CCA-250 Astrograph 1,250 mm. f/5, Astro-physics 1200 GTO. Pakchong, Nakornratchasima, Thailand.
