Description

The summer Milky Way arches over the other-worldly natural rock formations at Mono Lake's South Tufa Grove. Formed over decades or centuries completely under water, the now-exposed limestone tufa are monuments of geologic weirdness -- which is what makes them so terrific to photograph, in daytime or darkness. Definitely got some green airglow in this shot.

This is a panorama of twelve 25s exposures stitched with Microsoft ICE and processed in Lightroom 5.7 and Photoshop CC. A rented Sony A7s camera was used with a Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens at 14mm, f/2.8, ISO 12800.
