Description

NGC5905 is a face-on barred spiral galaxy, and NGC5908 is an edge-on galaxy similar in appearance to M104 (Sombrero Galaxy). Both NGC5905 and NGC5908 are located in the direction of the Constellation Draco at approximate distances of 155 and 148 Million Light-Years. There are many hundreds of background galaxies visible in the background. The two galaxies are separated by about 500,000 Light-Years, and are not interacting at this point. NGC5908 is also a spiral galaxy, but seen from the edge-on angle. NGC5905 has a strong central bar with bright blue star clusters and pinkish HII star-forming regions tracing out the two major arms. Dust clouds can be seen near the core of the galaxy in the bar. These two show their respective galaxy types quite well notwithstanding their considerable distances.
