Description

The LMC is a nearby galaxy at a distance of 163,000 light-years. It was most likely a barred spiral galaxy before being interrupted, likely by our own Milky Way's gravity. The LMC is clearly visible with the naked eye as a faint cloud and it is huge; more than 20 times the width of the full moon.
