Description

Here we have the iconic Rupes Recta region. I find this area to be one of the most beautiful of the lunar surface. The sun was very low on this evening and one can see the very long shadows cast upon surrounding basaltic plain. Because of that oblique solar angle, I found it impossible to eliminate the burned out crater edges. Perhaps it's simply not enough dynamic range? This was shot through a 642nm filter. I imaged this several times with varying exposure times and gain values. This one I believe I shot at a gain of 32 in the hope that I might get a little more DR.

I’ve held this one back for a while but ultimately decided that despite that big flaw, I wanted to publish this one simply because of the width of the shadow cast by the fault. I think it illustrates the depth pretty well. Ironic that the appearance of that feature and perhaps the cause of the blown out crater rims are both the same thing!

I hope you like it! Clear Skies...
