Description

About a year ago, I acquired the QHY168c camera and the Pleiades was the subject for first light. Initially I was encouraged by what I was seeing unfolding, but quickly I ran into serious problems, ultimately traced down to camera failure! So much for first light! QHY support was prompt, but unrealistic, expecting that I could totally dissemble the camera to attempt to reseat a ribbon cable which they thought was the problem. Needless to say, I returned it to the dealer for them to handle, which they promptly and effectively did. Worries weren't over, as I now had issues with finding more appropriate capture software, gain settings, yada yada yada, and then on to how to get everything to play nicely together. Oh, and learn how to process images in PixInsight, coming from a DSLR/BackyardEOS/Nebulosity background. I think I am getting somewhere, with a lot of help and encouragement from various members of the AstroBin and CloudyNights and PixInsight communities and others. I know I still have a long way to go; a lighter hand and more nuanced approach to noise, sharpening, contrast and colour just to name a few areas I need to work on. But, hey, it's fun and beats working!

Description: Yikes--first version really does look green! Played a bit with SCNR on this one; less green, minor increase in Blue channel luminosity and overall saturation. Hope it's better.
