Description

Here we have the beautiful M106 area. Messier 106 is a galaxy with some similarities to M31 in size and number of stars. It is also a Seyfert galaxy. It lies approximately 26 million lys away which corresponds to a diameter of 135,000 lys. There are a number of other galaxies in the FOV, probably the most interesting of which is the edge-on NGC 4217 in the lower right corner of the image which is likely gravitationally bound to M106.

This was rather difficult to image because I have some obstructions to my FOV to the North along with LP from the Phoenix, Arizona light dome. This limited me to about a two hour imaging window each night. I had to discard a higher than normal amount of subs because of some walking noise.

I made the effort to tone down the saturation levels that I find myself using and I believe that resulted in a more realistic depiction. Curiously, the two bright stars, a blue star and a yellow star in the lower right of the image were really strongly chromatic. It was noticeable even in the raw stack.

Anyway, comments and criticism always welcome and Clear Skies!
