Description

IC 2574, is a dwarf spiral galaxy [Type SAB m] discovered by American astronomer Edwin Foster Coddington in 1898

IC 2574 is located in the constellation Ursa Major (The Great Bear/ Big Dipper) and belongs to the Messier 81 group of galaxies. At a distance of about 12 million light-years it is moving away from us at a speed of nearly 57 kps. Its size is approximately 50,000 x 25,000 ly.

The brighter area in the upper right of the galaxy is an area of intense star formation.
