Description

Well, this has been a difficult journey. I started this image 5 weeks ago with the last decent bout of weather and obtained the Ha data for this. I took 300s for the fainter outer shell and 15s subs for the core, the hope being that by using HDR composition in Pixinsight I could process both aspects to the nebula, without blowing out the core. I then did the same thing just the other night, for the OIII data. Sadly, this object which is easy on the one hand proved very difficult on the other. No matter what I did, I could not keep the core the way I wanted it to be, and at the same time bring forth the outer faint shell. It has nearly driven me mad, and what is more frustrating is that I have actually picked up some of the even fainter outer portions of the shell, which also had to be sacrificed for the main object. I have a little of the outer shell showing, but it is not really anything like what I imaged, and it is somewhat blurred and fudged. Also, the central star in the nebula is missing, which is presumably because this is a Ha-OIII image, and thus it needs some RGB data to help bring that out. Indeed, because of the size of this object relative to my scope and camera, [130EDT refractor and 294 MM,] it is so small in the field of view, that additional difficulty exists because of this - hence the massive crop posted here. Now, I know all that I have written seems a bit negative, but it is my backstory, and in other ways I like the image and the colours. I am pleased to see M57 in the sky again. Anyway, overall the imaging time was 4 hours 33 minutes for the Ha and 3 hours and 2 minutes for the OIII, which totals 7 hours and 35 minutes, taken at -15C. Take care all of you, thanks...
