Description

M67 is an open cluster in the constellation Cancer, located about 2700 light years from Earth. It is one of the oldest cluster since it is expected to be about four billion years old. Only the NGC 188 cluster, about 5 billion years old and the NGC 6791, about 7 billion years old will be older. Given its age, it presents quite a few red giants. Having an age equivalent to that of our solar system, it is a suitable place to study stars similar to the sun. The number of stars is at least 500. It was discovered before 1779 by Johann Kohler. French astronomer Charles Messier rediscovered the cluster independently and cataloged it on April 6, 1780.
