This is a chain of galaxies from galaxy groups [CHM2007] HDC 843 and HDC 846. This chain is reminiscent of the larger Markarian's Chain in Virgo / Coma Berenices. The three galaxies in the upper left belong to the HDC 846 group (NGC 5436, 5437, 5438); most of the rest belong to HDC 843. The HDC 846 group averages about 330 million light years and HDC 843 averages about 275 million light years distance. One notable non-member exception is NGC 5434 - it is unusual in the sense that the Tully-Fisher distances are wildly inconsistent with the redshift estimated distance (12.2 mly by Tully-Fisher and 224 mly by redshift).

There are a large number of background galaxies - many are visible in the full size image. Also in this image is the Abell Galaxy Cluster ACO 1850 - it's distance is about 1.4 billion light years. Further back in distance are the quasars - nine are visible in this image. The visible Quasars range from 3.419 to 11.52 billion light years lookback. These objects, information, background galaxies and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.
