Description

Shooting the Horsehead Nebula up close was something I was looking forward to with this setup.

After collecting 11 hours of L, about 6 had a couple dust motes that would shifted during imaging and would not calibrate. Since the remaining five hours were good, I am suspecting the filter wheel not returning back to the filter at the right position. I need to test this more to be sure.

I did not want to shoot new flats, so shot another 6 hours which were good. I stacked 11 good hours and 17 total as a test and was going back and forth whether to crop the horsehead to the center and run with it.

I was pointed to Adam Block's selective rejection video to test as the problem subs were only a fraction. After trying out, to my pleasant surprise, I had recovered all of the problem L subs and stacked all 17 hours of L subs.

I highly recommend this video, if you ever run into dust motes that shifted and are a subset of the overall subs of a channel.

I shot an hour of Ha one night and decided to just go with LRGB result But I still used the Ha data into the SuperLum for a subtle difference.

Hope you like this result. Clear skies!
