Description

This is my first attempt at a "dark" nebula. LBN 437, The Gecko Nebula, lies fittingly in the constellation Lacerta, the Lizard.

The Gecko Nebula is paired with the large emission nebula Sh2-126 that runs through this frame. The left lobe of the Gecko contains many bright stars that were newly formed from the cloud. In this region, the young star V375 is associated with the X-shaped Herbig-Haro object HH398.

I struggled to get the proper length of sub exposure to not blow out star and to pick up as much of the dust as possible. Settling on 120 sec subs from bortle 5 seemed to work the best. The Ha signal from SH2-126 is very bright and easily visible in the red channel alone, but collecting Ha data really made it jump out. There are a lot of elements in this image, narrowband, RGB, and faint dust that required special and seperate processing to bring out in full detail. I completely changed my workflow for this type of target, and Im happy with the result. This opens up so many more target options with these type of nebula being widespread all year around.

As a side note I had to show what the Eq6-R ( 2.5 years old) can do in the right conditions. Seeing was great and the 37lb payload was guiding incredible, 0.4-.5 all night long screen shot attached as revision!

Thank for looking!
