Description

I went out to the Observatory yesterday and shot a sequence of image with my DAYSTAR QUARK Chromosphere, one for each 0.1 angstrom detente on the dial. I shot from blue to red, or counter-clockwise.

I used the Explore Scientific AR152 and ZWOasi174. With the QUARK's built-in Barlow this yielded 4,248mm focal length at f/28. I captured 1,000 14 bit serial frames and stacked 12%.

I also used 3x drizzle, so there are some stacking artifacts in the images. Please ignore them as they are not relevant to what I was trying to illustrate here.

I timed the length of time it took for the QUARK to settle on each knob setting going from +0.5 to Zero and then from zero to -0.5. It was 81 degrees in the POD when I took the samples. Here are the results.

+0.5 to +0.4 = 7m 13s

+0.4 to +0.3 = 6m 18s

+0.3 to +0.2 = 6m 24s

+0.2 to +0.1 = 7m 26s

+0.1 to +0.0 = 7m 22s

0.0 to -0.1 = 7m 14s

-0.1 to -0.2 = 7m 02s

-0.2 to -0.3 = 6m 52s

-0.3 to -0.4 = 7m 03s

-0.4 to -0.5 = 6m 46s

So, on average it takes about 7 minutes for my QUARK to settle on a new temperature setting at 80 degrees ambient temperature.
