I added exposure time again and further optimized the image section, which resulted in a larger field (mosaic).

IC 1396 in the constellation Kepheus is a huge hydrogen cloud (below left), which is also an area of star formation, distance approx. 2,400 light years. A Bok globule, a molecular cloud (IC 1396a), is embedded in this hydrogen cloud. A protostar develops inside the dark cloud, when it is hot enough it ignites and begins core fusion, IC 1396a (Version "C") is also called elephant's trunk.

The Sharples object Sh2-129, also known as the flying bat, is located in the top right field. Distance approx. 2,300 light years.

Habe noch mal Belichtungszeit nachgelegt und dabei den Bildausschnitt weiter optimiert, dadurch ergab sich ein größeres Feld (Mosaik).

IC 1396 im Sternbild Kepheus ist eine riesige Wasserstoffwolke (u.l.), die auch ein Sternentstehungsgebiet ist, Entfernung ca. 2.400 Lichtjahre. Eingebettet in dieser Wasserstoffwolke befindet sich eine Bok-Globule, eine Molekülwolke (IC 1396a). Im innern der Dunkelwolke entwickelt sich ein Protostern, wenn er heiß genug ist zündet er und es beginnt die Kernfusion, IC 1396a (Version "C") wird auch Elefantenrüssel genannt.

Im rechten Bildfeld oben befindet sich das Sharples Objekt Sh2-129, auch fliegende Fledermaus genannt. Entfernung ca. 2.300 Lichtjahre.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.

If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
