Description

This is a planetary nebula (PN) in the Aquarius constellation. The name planet nebula is a misnomer since it has nothing to do with planets, but is so named because some early astronomers mistook them for planets. In any case, the Helix Nebula is formed from the death of a star. It looks like a deep lake in the center or can also be akin to an eye, and is sometimes referred to as the Eye of God. It actually looks like a tube in 3 dimensions, but we cannot see the tube because one end is pointed towards Earth, so this view looks like we are peeking down a long tube with a lake at the other end or the eye as noted previously. Hope you enjoy this rendition.
