Description

I was drawn to this object by the large area of nebulosity in the centre of the image which (to my eye) looks just like a laughing clown. The Lady Gabriela Mistral Nebula (IC2599) is entering the scene from stage left to see what is going on. Hence my title for the image "The Lady and the Clown". The Gem Cluster (NGC3293) just left of centre represents a jeweled earing that our clown is wearing. The relatively wide field of view of the FSQ106/QSI683 combination works well in presenting the large nebula and the surrounding objects.

The data for this image have been captured under Bortle 3 skies in the Central West of NSW, Australia. The southerly location is ideal for imaging this part of the sky as we can run all night capturing data if the weather is clear.

Given that this configuration gives an image scale of 2.1" and I also wanted to crop the image, I elected to use drizzle integration when processing the data. This helps to improve the resolution of the image when working with under sampled data.
