Description

Recently saw several wider FOV versions of M16 and wanted to give the RASA8 and ASi 294MM at the 1x1 (2.3 micron) setting a go. I find the wider FOV to really give the amazing nebula perspective. To me, it has the appearance as a bird of prey swooping down and cupping its wings  on final approach. So the eagle moniker is more applicable than just the pillars of creations.

I am mostly happy with the result, tried to bring out as much detail of the pillars of creation from 400 mm Focal Length as possible. Definitley worth looking at the full resolution or the full screen zoom feature.

I never quite found the color balance I was looking for after numerous attempts: 1) SHO combined then stretch 2) STF stretch followed by HDR and then combined 3) GHS stretch and then combined.
I mixed and match to find the color variation and went for the red, orange, green blue palette I tend to favor. I also uploaded the more red version.

M16 is an open cluster  within the larger H-alpha region of IC 4703 in the constellation Serpens located 5.7K light years from earth.

The  iconic pillars of creation go without saying much after the famous hubble images. Can't wait for JWST deep dive into the region.
