Description

The picture was taken at 3:38am CDT on 8/9/2020 when it's the closest approach this time. Both objects show the same phase and the ice cap of the Mars is barely visible on the left (south) edge.

The Moon is registaxed from a single frame while the Mars is stacked from about a thousand frames. The stacking doesn't help much as the target is too small.

The focus is achieved through a Bahtinov mask against the Vega in the beginning. It had been very challenging to get the correct focus without that at a prior testing session.
