Description

The Vela Supernova Remnant is, as the name says, a supernova remnant located in the southern constellation Vela around 815 light-years away from Earth.

Its name means “the sails” in Latin.

Its source Type II supernova exploded approximately 11,000–12,300 years ago.

Captured using the Telescope Live AUS-2 telescope located at the Heaven's Mirror Observatory in New South Wales, Australia on 19 January 2021.
