Description

This is my third attempt at imaging the Sun, but my first time doing so with this filter and camera setup.

This image was captured using a Baader Solar Continuum filter (10nm / CWL 540nm) with Baader white light Solar Filter ASSF-50 OD 5.0, Player One Neptune-C II (IMX464), and Meade Model 290-P 60/900mm achromatic refractor. In this image, the active regions 12866, 12868, and 12869 can be seen approaching the limb of the Sun. Capturing these targets was a race against time as it was already late in the afternoon by the time I got started, and I knew they would likely cross the limb by the next day. The Sun was already at 35° alt, and dropping. Considering the circumstances, I'm pleased the image turned out as well as it did.

The original image shows the natural color at 540nm. Personally I like the green color, but it seems to be off-putting to others. So I reworked it a bit and applied a more traditional color palette using a gradient map. I have to admit though, I do like this version, too.
