Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a pair of galaxies is located about 200 million light years away in the constellation of Cancer at a declination of +23 degrees. Neither galaxy appears disturbed to me, so I don’t think they are close enough to be interacting.

At top right is the edge-on spiral galaxy IC 2247. It has a diameter of 100,000 light years. Dust band structures are visible along the lower right edge, which is likely the side of the galaxy towards us.

Below IC 2247 is the face-on ringed spiral galaxy IC 2248, 70,000 light years in diameter. It reminds me of M94, with a bright inner section and a faint outer ring.

The galaxy at left is the face-on spiral galaxy LEDA 23192, with the most interesting structure of the 3. The arms form a traditional S-shape, but it looks like a faint star stream extends to the right from the lower arm, wrapping counterclockwise around the whole galaxy. No distance information is available for this one, but based on its size and structure I am guessing that it is about 0.5 billion light years away.
