Description

The dominant galaxies in this field are the elliptical galaxy NCC 6876 and the barred spiral galaxy NGC 6872 of type SB(s)b peculiar. NGC6872 is 212 million light-years away and is approximately five billion years old. It is interacting with the lenticular galaxy IC 4970 slightly to the right, which is less than one twelfth as large.
