Description

I had a thoroughly disappointing imaging session at Stellafane this year. Laptop ran out of juice before I could get all the subs I wanted. This initial revision is B&W luminance only but I did get a bunch of Ha subs too but haven't managed to stack those yet. I will add to this image when I do. Also had no battery to take darks so I used darks from a previous session which I know is a big no no. Like I said, thoroughly disappointing session and a waste of the only clear night at Stellafane 2015. The fact that the end result is half decent is a testament to the clear skys in Vermont.

Revision 1 - Slight adjustments to levels and curves on base luminance image.

Revision 2 - One small step for man. I have been wanting to add filtered shots to an image for 12 months or so and I have finally managed it. Bought a Ha filter at NEAF and tried it out at Stellafane. Although this imaging session was fairly unsuccessful, I did manage to get 50 x 40 second images in Ha before my lap top kicked the bucket. The Ha images wouldn't stack in PI for some reason, probably a setting that would be easily corrected by a pro. They did stack easily and quickly in DSS so I added them to the luminance base shot. Both luminance and Ha images were taken with the camera set to mono obviously. A deviation from Hubble Palette I know but at least the Ha is in there in the traditional icky green. Well pleased.

Revision 3 - Changed Ha layer from green to red to reflect the usual color palette of the swan and to bow to popular opinion.

Revision 4 - Having not spent too long on the green to red change, I hadn't noticed that the nebulousity was considerably flatter then in rev 2. I spent some time playing with brightness, contrast, levels, curves and opacity of the Ha layer before I was somewhat satisfied.
