Description

Prime Milky Way season is nearing an end, so I thought I'd head up to Davenport Beach (CA) and shoot it over the rock stack there. Problem is, it was Sunday night before the Monday Labor Day holiday and the beach was packed with campfire-burnin', white-flashlight-wielding, selfie-taking non-photographers -- which made it challenging to get off even a 15- or 20-second shot without interference! Did get a few, though, including this one.

Had to correct the color a bit -- the rock and water had an orange cast due to all the campfires behind me on the beach casting a very warm glow. This was shot with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 "Art" series lens, which I hadn't used much before for nightscapes. I like how it pretty much fills the frame with the Milky Way compared to the wider 14mm and 20mm lenses.
