Description

After doing battle with flat fields with the 294 mono camera I have a workable RGBL first light image of the M106 region.  Taken with Newt the 8" newtonian at 953mm. I think this is the largest sensor I could use with this old scope.  Used 120s subs for each filter;  gain=1700/offset=10 for now. The solution to flat fielding with both this and a ASI294 I tried were the same..  Dim the flat light source till the exposures are ~5s or more and the sensor has a good linear response and flat fields are as routine as with my old QSI6120 CCD camera.  Anyway this is my initial impression and I am sure to refine things in time as the QHY294M will be a keeper.

Image is 488 min total with 25x120s for each color and 169x120s for luminance. Any other 294 type camera users who have suggestions please do share.

Description: As the OTA right now has significant vignetting until I redo the aiming of the draw tube, flats are hyper critical. I decreased intensity of flat panel light and doubled the duration of flat exposures and greatly reduced the need to to DBE.
