I had originally planned on imaging the Helix Nebula after NGC 7822 but I kept having repeated issues getting acceptable guiding performance on it. It is quite low in the sky for me at 43°N latitude. I decided to finally try the Cocoon Nebula since it was in a good position. I shot only RGB for this and created a Synthetic Lum by stacking the RGB masters with no rejection. I am quite pleased how this turned out. I typical struggle with good star colors but this time they came out well. I was also able to pull out the surrounding dust and some detail in the nearby reflection nebula. Down the road I might added a couple panels to include the long dust trail leading from the nebula.
