Description

NGC 7640 is a little-visited gem that lies just a bit to the southwest of the popular "Blue Snowball" planetary nebula. This galaxy is small and faint, making a more difficult target. It is classified as a barred spiral and appears to have undergone an interaction of some sort. It lies at a distance of 19 million light-years from Earth. NGC 7640 has a diameter of approximately 59,000 light-years.
