Description

IC 1805 Is a hydrogen emission nebula estimated at about 7500 light years away and located technically in Cassiopeia, but practically between Cassiopeia, Camelopardalis and Perseus. Massive stars - up to 50 times the mass of Earth's sun, some thought to be only 1.5 million years old - in the central region, known as Melotte 15 excite ionized hydrogen with intense ultraviolet radiation, causing interesting emissions in H-alpha from the dust cloud structures twisted and swirled by solar winds. Also in this image is IC 1795, or NGC 896, a bright star- forming area.

A beautiful arrangement of glowing gases, dust and stars, this image does not do a very good job of portraying its detail and color range and I'd like to try to gather much more imaging data in this region.
