    Description

This is an LRGB image for Stephan's Quintet, a group of five galaxies, where four are directly interacting, and the fifth we have learned is actually a lot closer to us than the others, and only visually looks like part of the group.

This is a drizzled and then cropped image. The drizzle was done to bring out as much detail as possible and the crop emphasized the five galaxies.

Pfile pointed me to an interesting article about this galaxy group. Here is the ref http://arxiv.org/pdf/1009.2740v1.pdf and a quote from the article abstract. "The evolution of compact groups of galaxies may represent one of the few places in the nearby universe in which massive galaxies are being forged through a complex set of processes involving tidal interaction, ram-pressure stripping, and perhaps finally “dry-mergers” of galaxies stripped of their cool gas." This is an interesting read.
