Description

The Mount Lemmon Sky Center hosted a special event for nearly 50 guests. From the 9150 foot summit, we enjoyed the 3 hour show.

The upper left image, captured with a GoPro camera, shows Mt. Lemmon's shadow pointing to the rising Moon which is already in the Earth's shadow. Earlier, we were discussing exactly where the moon was going to make its appearance on the horizon. Soon, it became clear the mountain peak's shadow would point the way, as it made its way across the San Pedro River Valley toward the Galiuro Mountain Wilderness on the horizon.

The upper right image, also from a GoPro camera, show guests observing and photographing the event. As night fell, temperatures dropped to the low 50's. And, the night was mostly clear.

The lower left image, captured with an Olympus E-PL3 camera, shows rising Moon more closely, with shadows, clouds and the veil of Venus.

The lower right image, also from the E-PL3, shows totality. This eclipse seemed darker than others I have observed.

It was a wonderful time on the mountain. Thanks for looking.
