Description

A question that I'm often asked when imaging--"How far can you see?" I used to answer with something like, the same as your eyes, but that doesn't impress the person asking the question. So I tried a quick look-up of Quasars that might be available to me, and made this image of PKS 0405-123 (circled), located approximately 6.4 billion light years away. It is a very simple image, but it's difficult to comprehend what it means. It's fairly bright at ~15 mag, so this is just a stack of three 5min subframes, luminance filter, only dark subtraction and flat fielding performed.

So now I can quickly answer with something like "at least halfway to the edge of the known Universe". It sounds better.
