Description

M74 is a face-on spiral galaxy in Pisces estimated at about 32 million light years. It has the second lowest surface brightness of the Messier objects next to M 101. This image was my first test of a new Celestron Edge HD 1100. An interesting note about M74: It apparently has an ultraluminous X-ray source that is postulated to be associated with a large black hole with a mass of 10,000 of Earth's suns.

In the second revision I went back and took flats, darks and bias at the proper CCD temperature and recalibrated the images.
