Description

HDF technical data / Telescope: Newtonian (d=443mm, f=2048mm) / Location: Emberger Alm, Kaernten, Austria / Camera: SBIG ST-10XME with AO-8 and CFW-9 / Exposure: 20.6 hours (luminance 247x5 min. bin 1x1).

I have done nearly no image processing, because I don't wanted to distort the small galaxies. Some artefacts at the edges are caused by the not perfect flat-fielding at this extremly contrast-stretched image. I have counted the number of galaxies in small subsamples of this image and I estimate the number of galaxies in the whole image is 5000 or more. The limiting red-magnitude (620 nm) of this image I estimate as nearly +24.5 magnitudes. Galaxies (and the few stars) and their magnitudes can be checked at the "Hawaii Active Catalog Of The Hubble Deep Field": www.ifa.hawaii.edu/~cowie/tts/tts.html .

An animated comparision between the registrated Hartmann Deep Field and the real Hubble Deep Field can be found at: www.astrobin.com/22346 .
