Description

IC 4406 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Lupus the wolf. It has the shape of a torus, like a donut. However viewed from Earth the torus is seen edge-on, giving its appearence. Because of this, its popular name is The Retina Nebula. This nebula has beautiful detailed dust structures spanning across the nebula.

F673N (Sulfur II) is red.

F656N (Hydrogen Alpha) is green.

F502N (Oxygen III) is blue.

FITS data obtained from Hubble Legacy Archive.

Combination of two datasets from June 28, 2001 and January 19, 2002 respectively.

North is up.
