Description

Here's another hourgloid planetary nebula from the Hubble archive. This time it is actually called the Hourglass Nebula and is cataloged as MyCn18. It was cataloged by Margaret W. Mayall (My) and Annie Jump Cannon (Cn) prior to 1924. In 1996 the hourglass shape of MyCn18 was observed. It is also quite well known in pop culture because the center of the nebula kinda looks like the eye of God staring.

Red: hst_06221_01_wfpc2_f658n_pc

Green: pseudo

Blue: hst_06221_01_wfpc2_f502n_pc

This was made in a hurry for no real reason and as such I only bothered to clean f658n's cosmic ray damage (I can't remember if I did f502n or not but it doesn't have severe cosmic ray damage nonetheless.) I decided I'd simply use a synthetic green instead.

Data from July 30, 1995 from Hubble Legacy Archive.
