NGC 672 & IC 1727, OSC, 7 Nov 2015

First attempt at this galaxy pair. Had trouble getting and remaining focused; it was cold, and this was probably due to the instrument cooling down. Finding with the PicGoto, from α Ari, was easy. I need to change out my USB hub as I lost connection to the guider at least once. Mount performance, especially in RA, was terrible. So all in all, I'm not expecting much from this image. And I didn’t get much either. A combination of relatively poor seeing and poor focus or collimation or both made this much less than it could have been.

Guiding: Orion ST-80 + DSI Ic + PHD 2.5.0.7 (Win 7 ASCOM)

Camera: DSI IIc, no chiller CCD 3 °C

Acquisition: Nebulosity 4.0.3, no dither

Exposure: 31x600 s

Stacking: Neb 4, bad pixel map, bias included, 33 flats, match histograms, deBayer & square, trans+rot align, 40-60%tile stack.

Processing: StarTools 1.4.305 Crop; Wipe 75%; Develop 75.47%; HDR optimize; Color: scientific, 287%; Deconvolute 3.3 pix; Track 6.0 pix, Smoothness 88%; Magic: shrink 3 pixels. CS6 Astronomy Tools deep space noise reduction; make stars smaller; liquify/pucker; levels & curves; StarTools Repair:Warp; Astroframe.
