Description

GC428 is a messy barred spiral galaxy in the direction of the Constellation Cetus between 50-60 Million Light-Years distant. There are many knots of blue star formation and ample HII areas in this distorted and warped galaxy, which indicates that it collided with or merged with another galaxy in the distant past. The misshapend star at the top edge of the galaxy is a neat triple star system.
