Description

The blazar (which is the same thing as a quasar, except it is oriented with its poles pointed at us) is an interesting object. It has flared in brightness a few times in the last several months, which scientists believe is caused by its supermassive black hole consuming large amounts of matter. it went from magnitude 13.7 to 12.5 within a week. It's fading a bit now, probably around magnitude 13 when I made this image last night. This is the most distant object I've imaged - 3.75 billion light years away. Total exposure on this image was 23 min 36s at ISO 2000.
