Description

Taken with my good old MX5C many years ago, but what a camera that one was.

Just before the moon got too big and bright last week I managed to get some imaging time on one of my Spring favourites - M94 in Can Ven. The moon was absent but there was a lot of haze in the sky which again caused me some problems with light gradients. Eventually, with a bit of messing around with bias frames and gradient removers I got this image. It still looks a bit muddy to me though its a lot better than any other image Ive ever got of this galaxy.

An interesting spiral, type Sb, with quite elusive spiral arm structure, there appears to be quite a lot going on near the centre of the galaxy. At mag. 8.2 it is quite bright and it is a good size in the sky at 14 x 13. Being almost face on its surface brightness is quite low at 13.2. Its very near to us at 20 Mly.

This image 40 x 60 second exposures. Acquired and processed in AstroArt using my 10"
