Description

Here are a couple more interesting objects in Cygnus from July 2006.

The first is NGC 7026 (image A), which is usually reported as a bipolar planetary nebula. It is a rather strange looking object, I think because it is so small,25" x 9", I'm not resolving it too well. It's quite faint at mag. 12.0. Anyone else seen this object and if so what do you make of it? My image was acquired in AstrArt, 30 x 60 second unguided exposures. Individual images colour converted and summed. Some log stretching and LR decon performed on the integrated L frame. Some colour balancing and noise reduction on the RGB frame and then a LRGB synthesis to produce the final image.

My second image (image B) is NGC 6888, the Crescent Nebula. Or a part of it at least. This is reported as a SNR and is a beautiful object. 32 x 60 second unguided exposures produced this result. I had quite a problem with the colour gradient across this image, which may have been due to a stray light source getting into the optical path. It's ok but I need to go back and do the other half of the nebula sometime - I hadn't realised it was so big till I came to process it up.
