Description

Not my best effort -- felt hurried that night and guiding didn't go well -- but what the heck. M1 is an interesting object, the remnants of a supernova observed by Chinese astronomers in 1054: less than a thousand years ago. Expanding at a rate of 1500 km/s, M1's apparent magnitude has faded to the degree that Messier himself would struggle to find it with his contemporary gear searching the sky today.
