Description

Double stacking 2x Lunt40s brought many reflections and "ghosts" into the image. Well - around the image.
It is suggested a circular polarising filter between the two etalons helps reduce reflections and glare.

I couldn't find the "B+W Kaesemann" Bob Yoesle uses but found "B+W Master High Transmission Circular Polarising Filter 49mm" on Amazon for £122.
I put my Altair T2 filter drawer between the 2 Lunts and gave it a go. Oh wow what a difference.

Visually, through an Svbony 32mm Plossl, the difference is night and day.
I could remove/replace the CPL in real time and see the orange space turn black. Contrast improved. A slight dimming which my eyes adjusted for.
These Svbonys falter at the edges in Ha but the middle is great.

Through a camera a very different experience (Player One Apollo M-MAX IMX432).
I didn't see the "off the disk flaring" I saw through an EP.
Including/removing the CPL resulted in "a very nice view" (with) and a totally over exposed white disk (without).
I had to reduce exposure from 6ms (with CPL) to 2ms (without CPL) to get fairly equivalent camera views.
My eyes did this in real time without faff - them eyes might be old but boy are they smart!

A CPL does indeed help.
There may be better. There are bound to be worse. I'm happy with my B+W "Master".
