Description

Here's another "little" galaxy shot with the 8RC. Since I hadnt used the scope since May I was wanting to get it out and put it through its paces for a little while. The seeing has unforunately just been awful lately, so I'll probably finish up the project I'm on now (NGC 2359) and put it away (again) for a little while. Hoping for good skies this Spring.

NGC 1300 is a barred spiral galaxy about 70 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus. The galaxy is about 100,000 light-years across; about 2/3 the size of our own galaxy, the Milky Way. It is a member of the Eridanus Cluster, a cluster of 200 galaxies. It was discovered by John Herschel in 1835.

Apparent dimensions of NGC 1300 is 6.2' X 4.1' and the apparent magnitude is 11.4.

48 X 300 Lum and 10 X 300 RGB all shot at f/8 using the TSFlat2 and binned 2X2. I used drizzle integration in PI for the Lum.
