Description

NGC 1245 is a lovely open cluster in Perseus.

I have been trying to improve the collimation of my scope recently, and have found that open clusters are a great way to test the results.

I also enclose the output curvature and aspect maps from CCDInspector - I now have a minimum aspect ratio of around 4 in the centre of the image, as well as a well centred curvature maps. Previously, I had some coma in the image, resulting in a strange pattern - the superposition of a constant coma with astigmatism varying as the distance from the field centre, which creates a saddle function of aspect ratio - so with a minimum in one direction, a maximum in the other. This improved the collimation a little and I can now get 1.5" FWHM on a good day.
