Description

This is my second attempt at M42 and my first guided image using a borrowed SBIG ST-i Guider. I took 40 x 300 second luminance subs and 10 x 20 second darks. I discarded 3 luminance frames due to minor star trails and stacked the balance. Took me a while to get the nebula in the center of the ring created by the focal reducer but once there, guide setup went quickly. I could see that the full 40 frames would take me to about 2am when M42 would be well past the Meridian and probably past the point of mount flip. I got the full 40 frames without a flip but PHD guiding failed to control the mount 2 frames before the end.

Very pleased with the end result compared to the same target this time last year.
