Description

Compilation of my data on Andromeda this year, taken in July. The 120s subs were used to create my other image of M31, which can be seen at> http://www.astrobin.com/212377/C/

This image has more data, with 9x180s subs aquired the following day back then. Still not perfect, however, as there is a lot of gradients, that I've tried my best to get rid of, but that's what I could do. Perhaps the use of better software, such as PI's Background Extractors (don't have PI anyway, at least for now), could help, but that's something for the future cloudy nights... Anyway, a little bit of brightening on the top right of M31 appears to be the faintest possible capture of the IFN, comparing with much better images of this area, but my DSLR, especially with less than 1 hour of integration time wouldn't be able to capture it anyway. It is really faint, and just modestly visible in extreme stretches, but its faint visibility was unexpected to me.

Processing, as usual, consisted in Registration and Stacking in DSS, of all the subs using its group feature. The bult ok stretching, curves adj., selective color, levels, saturation adj., gradient correction, color correction, HLVG, Lab color, and a small HDR using different stages on the process, was done in Photoshop CC. Final adjustments and export in LR CC.

Taken from Rural Skies (Bortle 3-4; NELM ~6.2), from Cristina, MG, Brazil (22ºS latitude). Thanks for looking.

Date and Time: July 27th and 28th, 2015, at ~4:30h a.m.

Camera: Unmodded Canon T4i/650D, at ISO 800

Lens: Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 (non-VC), at 200mm and f/3.5

Exposure Detail: 14x120s + 9x180s with same ISO and lens settings, total 55 minutes.

*Revision -C- adds a bit of Color Efex's Detail Extractor tool, used at only 3%, yet yelding a noticeable result. What's your opinion?*

*Revisoin -D- is just a crop on M31 from -C- version, in a typical ~400-500mm FL field of view on an DSLR. Obviously more noise is visible and, due to my oversampled pixel scale, the image is actually far from "best", and was only uploaded for those that wanted to see the image at ~100%.*
