Description

Half an hour of Geminids.

On Monday I was driving on a highway from Helsinki to Lahti. After getting away from the lights of the city, the clouds cleared away and some auroras were visible on the Northern sky. It was time for an impromptu astrophotography session, luckily I had my cameras with me.

When the auroras toned down, the a7S was pointed towards Orion. The lens was a Voigtländer 50/1.1 I had just bought in Helsinki, not sure if it was the right choice as holy-moly is the picture full of aberrations! But at least the large aperture made it possible to catch every meteor that happened to dive into atmosphere in the image area..

No tracking was used. Meteors were culled from 600 3.2s exposures. The background (landscape) is a six image panorama. PTGui was used for aligning the images, Photoshop CC for other editing.
